PROGRAM:

The Black Hills Playhouse is an intensive, professional, summer theatre production and training center associated with the College of Fine Arts, University of South Dakota. Professional staff and students work together in all aspects of production providing practical training, as well as some formal course work opportunities.

Urinetown, the Musical June 19-July 6
The Boys Next Door August 14-24
Big River: The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn July 10-27

PERSONNEL:

Applicants accepted as company members must be mature, talented people who have a secure knowledge of theatre arts or related arts as they apply to theatre. Preference will be given to applicants who have demonstrated a multifaceted approach to theatre with a good mixture of performance and technical skills. Company members are expected to be at the Playhouse from mid May through August 24th. Many conflicts can be worked out, if they are known ahead of time.

CHILDREN’S THEATRE COMPANY OF SOUTH DAKOTA

– An outreach of the Black Hills Playhouse will also be hiring personnel for summer, fall and spring tours. Actor/Director teams visit a community for a weeklong residency that culminates with a musical production using up to 50 local children. The Actor/Directors play major roles in each production. Responsibilities include auditions, rehearsals, productions, load in/load outs and maintenance of production costumes and equipment.

ACADEMIC CREDIT:

Students may enroll for up to 10 semester hours of graduate or undergraduate academic credit awarded through the University of South Dakota. Enrollment in course work is not a requirement.

FINANCIAL AID:

All students receive scholarships that pay their room and board fees.

PAY:

In addition to room and board, all company members are paid

MATERIALS TO BE SUBMITTED WITH AUDITION or INTERVIEW:

Actors – prepared, memorized audition piece(s) including a song; a resume; a recent headshot (preferably b/w) Total audition to last no longer than three minutes. Accompanist will be provided. If you cannot audition in person, we accept recorded auditions in VHS or DVD format. Vocal auditions may be by CD.
Designers/Technicians – resume, recent headshot, and photographs/slides/DVD of recent work.
