Annual Appeal

Annual Appeal

Dear Patrons:

Memory is the treasury and guardian of all things.

Marcus Tullius Cicero

The Black Hills Playhouse is planning a 2021 Summer Season in Custer State Park. Together, we will build new memories built on old ideas. We will go back to the beginning and celebrate theatre in the safety and serenity of the open air if vaccine usage is not widespread.

The  Playhouse asks your help so we can bounce into 2021 with a fresh start. We are asking you to consider making an annual appeal contribution to the Black Hills Playhouse, or perhaps an additional year-end gift if you are able.

On October 17th, the Black Hills Playhouse Board of Directors approved a plan to create a new outdoor performing space with socially distanced seating, plenty of fresh air, and shade structures. We are in the planning stages now with a group of professionals who have volunteered their time to help make it happen.

Looking back at 2020,  the BHP was able to refashion many of our programs to online experiences. The pandemic brought unexpected change and the staff, board, and donors rose to meet that challenge through online adult and children’s performance along with a virtual children’s camp. Creating the online content taught us lessons and gave us new methods of delivering our productions for the future. Just recently, theatre artists worked on a production with residents in nine group homes that serve people with disabilities.  The entire show was rehearsed and broadcast over Zoom.

Because our donors are fierce, we have changed the name of Friends of the BHP to Guardians of the BHP. Our guardians are warriors who believe in the positive force of the BHP and support it year in and year out. Our donors, volunteers, board, and staff are a group of can-do folks who know that we can overcome almost anything if we work together.

This year we need our Guardians more than ever to make the 2021 Season happen and to support essential arts programs for kids across South Dakota. Your investment of any size now will help us plan, prepare, and persevere. You are what makes us brave and strong. Guardians of the BHP rise up!

With gratitude and optimism,

Linda & Dan
