Lisa Wipperling, (She/Her), directed Legally Blonde: The Musical, helping bring the magic to life at the Black Hills Playhouse this summer! Having Lisa as a part of our Season 79 Company has been a dream, and we are so proud to welcome her back for a 5th season, and her first as a director!
Get to know Lisa a little better!
Can you share a little about your background?
I've been a professional Performer and Teacher for over two decades and I enjoy collaborating with theatre artists to tell compelling stories for diverse audiences.
Have you worked with the Black Hills Playhouse before this season?
Yes. This is my 5th season at the Black Hills Playhouse but my first in the role of a Director. In the past I was a performer.
What has your experience been like working with the Black Hills Playhouse? Are there
any especially unique aspects of working at a historic summer stock theatre?
Well a unique aspect of Black Hills Playhouse is you never know when you may come nose to nose with a Buffalo but the theatre is alway high quality from the design to the performances and I get to work with wonderful students and professionals in a beautiful picturesque place that is my home away from home. I truly love it.
What do you love about theatre?
I love being able to live truthfully under imaginary circumstances day after day and see it play out. After all, that's why we call them plays.
How does it feel to bring this show to life?
Legally Blonde is a beautiful story of Elle Woods being judged by her appearance, being underappreciated, overcoming adversity, following her heart, and fighting for the greater good. Her heart wins in the end and not only do I love a good happy ending but a little escapism in today's climate never hurt anyone. It's just a feel good show with some fun spectacle, and a lot of pink!
