TAKING THE HIGH ROAD

We were informed in late May that a part of S. Playhouse Road (between Iron Mt. Road and Center Lake) would be closed for part of the summer due to deteriorating road conditions and rising costs. This causes the back road access to the Playhouse and Center Lake through Rockerville Road to be inaccessible this summer for people coming from Rapid City, Hermosa, and Keystone.

How can you help?

  • The Black Hills Playhouse will remain open and can be accessed by the public using Hwy 87. Hwy 87 can be accessed by taking Hwy 79 to the State Game Lodge and coming up through the Park.

  • Help us spread the word so people don't get caught by surprise. Ticket purchasers will receive emails about the change in advance of performances.  We will do our best to keep people informed.

  • Take plenty of time to get to the theater. For those affected, please look at the recommended routes and plan accordingly to make curtain. (On the plus side, the scenery is beautiful and more time in the forest can be glorious.)

  • Join us! Our patrons are the lifeblood of our theatre and our window to make income goals is limited to a short season.  Our investments in the theatre have already been made. While we are concerned about this unexpected news, we recognize that the safety of our patrons and the need to repair this road is of utmost importance.

  • If you find that you can't make the performance, call us!  We are happy to exchange for another performance during the summer.

We apologize in advance for the inconvenience this may cause. We sincerely value your business and are so looking forward to taking the stage in the renovated theater this summer. We will continue to add information to our website as it is received.
