Thank You For An Amazing Season 79

Updated: Aug 21

It’s almost impossible to think we are already saying this, but we have officially wrapped up Season 79 at the Black Hills Playhouse!

Season 79 was undeniably dynamic and marks another memorable summer of theatre in the Black Hills. We thank everyone who explored how “The Impossible Must Be Possible” alongside us. Our company brought to life exceptional productions, and audiences were given the opportunity to immerse themselves in the stories. So many amazingly talented individuals helped us bring these plays to life. We thank our Season 79 Company for their hard work–from behind the scenes to curtain call, every one of you made this season magic. To meet our Season 79 full company, you can view this season’s playbill here.

We thank our sponsors for supporting our mission to bring engaging theatre to all. We couldn’t put together such an amazing season without the support of these fantastic individuals and businesses. Without their investments, ticket prices would be higher, and fewer artists could be employed. You can view the full list of Season 79 Sponsors here.

And last, but certainly not least, we want to thank YOU, the audience, for joining us in Custer State Park this summer! Your energy makes the Playhouse come to life and shapes unforgettable memories for every single company member who works hard to bring you an amazing show. Thank you for joining us, and we can’t wait to see you next summer.

Agatha Christie’s Murder on the Orient Express kicked off Season 79, starting the summer off with mystery, thrills, and stunning set and costume design. The opulence of the stage was only outshone by our amazing cast, which left audiences raving. Speaking of audiences, it felt FANTASTIC to welcome you all back to the Playhouse, and you made every performance electric. Read the full review of our first play of the season here!

Legally Blonde: The Musical brought energy, laughter, and utter joy to the stage. The vision and direction of this fun and fabulous musical was brought to life by the wonderful Lisa Wipperling. Get to know more about Lisa here. We love sharing theatre experiences with absolutely everyone, which is why we are so proud to have partnered with LifeScape, Inspire Education, and the Autism Society of the Black Hills (ASBH) to bring a sensory-friendly performance of Legally Blonde: The Musical to audiences. Thanks to your support we also had the chance to offer free tickets to those with sensory sensitivities. It was another memorable hit! Read the full review of our first musical of the season here.

Waitress: the Musical was a heartfelt, powerful play to bring to life on our stage this summer. We are SO proud to have been chosen for the regional premiere of Waitress: The Musical and were the first to produce it in South Dakota! This play shines a light on the realities of domestic violence, so we teamed up with WAVI, or Working Against Violence, Inc., a crucial organization in the Black Hills, to collect donations throughout the run of this play. THANK YOU to everyone who helped us check off WAVI’s list of needs. The cherry on top, so to speak, was giving away slices of pie from our very own official pie sponsor, The Colonial House Restaurant! You can read the full review of Waitress: The Musical here.

The Book of Will ended our season run of plays, and our very own fan favorites, Jeff Kingsuby and Dan Workman, graced the stage for another brilliant production. We also welcomed back director Tom Schwans! Get to know more about Tom here. The Book of Will is all about the power of friendship, and we are reflecting on all of the amazing friendships that were formed this season at the Black Hills Playhouse with another stellar company. Taking that final bow is always bittersweet, but we can’t thank you all enough for joining us for this last play of the season. Read the full review of the Book of Will here.
