Season 79: Mark Your Calendars for These Special Performances

We are feeling the magic of what is possible leading up to Season 79! You have four amazing shows, adding up to a whopping 53 chances to see a production at the Black Hills Playhouse this summer. 


Throughout Season 79, we have sprinkled in special chances to attend one of our fantastic performances. Get your calendars ready and read on to see what particular offer tickles your fancy. 

Tatanka Teaser Cabaret Season Warmer 

Join us May 31 at 2:00 pm for the Tatanka Teaser Cabaret Season Warmer! This special performance features our Season 79 company performing pieces they auditioned with. Get a glimpse of the inspiring pieces that helped them stand out among the 2500 auditions we saw this year.

Pay-As-You-Can Performances 

It is our mission at the Black Hills Playhouse to bring the magic of theatre to as many people as possible, and we believe money should never be a barrier to the arts. Join us each Saturday before the opener of each of our four productions for a Pay-As-You-Can performance, sponsored by Julie Oswald! There is a suggested $10 donation for those who can, and any and all donations are welcome. 


General Admission, no reserved seats.


These performances occur:

  • Saturday, June 7 at 7:30 pm for Agatha Christie's Murder on the Orient Express

  • Saturday, June 28 at 7:30 pm for Legally Blonde: The Musical

  • Saturday, July 19 at 7:30 pm for Waitress: The Musical

  • Saturday, August 9 at 7:30 pm for The Book of Will


Opening Matinees Followed by Artist Opening Reception

Our opening matinees are full of energy and excitement! They also include an Artist Reception after each opening performance where we celebrate the cast and crew. Join us for an exciting show, and stay after to say hello (and grab an autograph while you’re at it). Grab your tickets for opening matinees here.


Plus, our season opener is set to be EXTRA special! Join us on Sunday, June 8 for our season opener! Come early and enjoy a string quartet before the show from 1:15 pm - 2:00 pm. Stay after for a Champaign toast at 4:30 pm, plus the first meet & greet of the season!

Kids Go Free Nights

We are ready to inspire future generations of theatergoers, and are proud to offer Kids Go Free nights, sponsored by Bank West!


Don’t forget to check each play’s target audience to make sure it is appropriate for your child’s age. Check play descriptions out here.


Please Note: Discounts can not be stacked in the ticketing system which means that adults must purchase a full-priced adult ticket (no senior or military discounts) to get the free tickets for kids. If you are making reservations for more than 4 kids, please call the box office at 605 255-4141 for help making reservations.

Sensory-Friendly Performance

The Black Hills Playhouse is proud to offer a sensory-friendly performance to the 2025 season lineup! We want to ensure that absolutely everyone has a chance to experience Legally Blonde: The Musical. Our 2025 sensory-friendly performance is on Wednesday, July 9, at our 2:00 pm matinee.

USD Alumni Night 

Mark your calendars for this year’s USD Night and pre-show BBQ, taking place on Friday, June 13th at the Black Hills Playhouse and performance of Agatha Christie's Murder on the Orient Express! Dinner and networking will begin at 5:30 p.m. at Hab Hall, which is located just feet from the stage. The meal will be provided courtesy of the USD Foundation & Alumni Association.


The performance will begin at 7:30 p.m. with a run time of approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes. A limited number of $30 discounted tickets are available to alumni and friends until June 3.
