Seasonal Employment

The Black Hills Playhouse (BHP) seeks actors, production members, and customer service staff for the 13-week summer stock season in Custer State Park. We are also seeking actors/directors for our touring outreach company, Dakota Players, which provides theatre education opportunities for kids K-12 throughout South Dakota and surrounding states.

 

All positions are paid (salaries DOE) and include room and board.  Housing for the summer stock season consists of shared dormitory rooms or small apartments. Meals are served in a dining hall.

Directors and designers should inquire directly with Artistic Director, Dan Workman, dworkman@blackhillsplayhouse.com.  Hiring for these positions is generally done between September and December previous to the season.

The 2019 Season Employment Application may be found here. Each applicant must fill this form out and send as instructed or bring to the audition or interview site.

 

Employment Packet:

When applying electronically, a cover letter and resume for each position must be included with all other materials requested for the section you are applying for. Note: See instructions for customer service or support staff, technical, and acting positions below for complete instructions.

 

Please convert all files (including headshots) to PDFs and combine them into a single PDF packet (using combinepdf.com or a similar website) for each position you are applying for. When sending your completed employment packet, the subject line must include "BHP Application".

How To Apply for a Customer Service or Support Staff Position

1. Fill out an application (see link above). Examples of these positions include customer service workers, hospitality interns, chef & chef assistant.

 

2. All applicants must submit an Employment Packet (including the 2019 Employment Application, a cover letter, and a resume). Follow the instructions listed under the "Application" section above and then submit the Employment Packet to: employment@blackhillsplayhouse.com

3. If chosen for interview, you will be contacted through email to set up a time.

4. When hiring is complete for the season (generally late March to mid-April), it will be posted on our website and social media.

 

 

How To Apply for a Technical Position

1. Sign up for an interview time by getting in touch with the contact for each site.

 

2. Upon arrival, please provide us with

  • Application

  • Resume

  • Headshot (if available)

  •  

3. All technical applicants must submit an Employment Packet (including the

    2019 Employment Application, a cover letter, and a resume). Follow the

    instructions listed under the "Application" section aboveand then submit the

    Employment Packet to: employment@blackhillsplayhouse.com

 

4. When hiring is complete for the season (generally late March to mid-April), it will be posted on our website and social media.

How to Audition 

1. Sign up for an audition time by getting in touch with the contact for each site.

 

2. Upon arrival, please provide us with:

  • Application

  • Resume

  • Headshot

  • Sheet music for the accompanist


3. Be prepared to perform a monologue and a short song, or 2 contrasting monologues if you do not plan to sing. (2 minutes or less, unless specified differently by KCACTF or MWTA)

4. When hiring is complete for the season (generally late March to mid-April), it will be posted on our website and social media.

Electronic Acting Submissions

Actor submissions are accepted through February 1, 2019.

Technician submissions are accepted through March 1, 2019.

 

Please follow all instructions listed under the "Application" section at the top of the page. When sending your completed employment packet, the subject line must include "BHP Application".

 

Apply electronically by submitting an application, headshot, cover letter, and a resume. If you are applying for a technical position, let us know in the email that you will not be attending an audition site and that you would like to be contacted to set up an interview.

 

Actors must also submit links to two contrasting monologues and a short song via the Electronic Acting Submission Form Send your electronic submission to: employment@blackhillsplayhouse.com.
